Vanilla Extract Recipe
To make beautiful authentic vanilla extract without any of the nasties is super easy.
To make 250ml you will need about 7 beans (a 25g pack contains about 10 beans) and 250ml of pure alcohol, vodka or rum or similar.
Slit the beans lengthways, but don't cut all the way through. Immerse the beans in the alcohol, ensuring that they are completely covered.
Let the extract sit for at least 6 weeks and ideally longer if you can resist. The longer you wait the more potent the extract will be.
The beans can be reused to make a second batch and after that you can dry the beans and grind to a powder to use in your baking.
Remember to always make sure the beans are covered with alcohol, as oxygen will cause the beans to decay.
Keep the extract out of strong sunlight and in a cool place with a lid on.
Vanilla extract will not expire as long as the beans are always covered in pure alcohol.

How should I store my vanilla pods?
Our beautiful vanilla beans are not dried out like some beans that you may have seen for sale. To care for these more moist vanilla beans please keep them
in a container with airflow and air circulation. The beans will gently dry out over time, but will not lose their flavour.
